Tokyo—Riyadh Magazine

On the occasion of Saudi Arabia being the guest of honor at the Tokyo Book Fair 2010, AlMohtaraf is commissioned to design a special one-off publication commemorating that event in three languages (Arabic, Japanese and English). The title on the cover is designed using specially designed arabic words—Tokyo and Riyadh—in black ink simulating Japanese classical calligraphy. The solution for such a multi-lingual publication was in the binding—top to bottom, with the internal pages designed in three columns each for a language. In callouts, color coding was applied to the three scripts, and quotation marks typical of each script were used simultaneously, which stood nicely against the relative restraint of the remaining typography.
The Beirut team of AlMohtaraf managed to design, edit, and send the magazine to print in a matter of five unforgettable days.
